5 Easy Steps to Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions This Year

Happy New Year!

2018 is here and with it (as every new year) brings new sets of goals and objectives to accomplish. It is very easy to make a long list of things that we want to change, add, or achieve in the upcoming months, but sticking to them can be at times quite challenging. Being unrealistic and setting too many resolutions in too many areas of your life can be more detrimental than beneficial.

The Holidays were probably filled with eating, drinking and basically being merry. Now it’s time to crunch down at the gym and in the kitchen to get back to being fit and healthy. Come visit us at Pinnacle Training and Fitness so we can help you set specific goals and more importantly maintain them through the year.

It’s a very well-known fact that new year’s resolutions are usually not kept for very long. Here are a few tips to help you hold your resolutions and to have a bigger success rate for your goals in 2018.

Set Accessible Goals

Keep your goals reasonable and consequently attainable. Setting exorbitant objectives for yourself will automatically set you up for failure. You are better off going slower and sticking to your program than to set some difficult routines that you will not be encouraged to keep up with. It’s January, it’s cold, it’s easy to want to stay in bed. You may have had a stressful Holiday period or you may have gone on vacation. Many factors make it more difficult to get back to reality and to your routine.

Start slowly, but surely.

Energize Your Motivation

It’s a well known fact that keeping active and exercising is the best way to keep energy levels high. We know that this is a time where some days you may want to crawl under the covers and stay there all day. This feeling is normal during the cold winter months where your body is working hard at keeping you warm. This may actually reduce your vital daily energy. The more you move, the more your body will fuel up on natural energy.

Keep moving to keep your motivation levels at their highest.

Be Gentle with Yourself

There’s no use in beating yourself up over a few missed trainings or an occasional piece of birthday chocolate cake. If you’re hitting the gym more often then the donut shop, you should be able to stay on your fitness track. One slip-up should not completely eliminate your general motivation to stay healthy and fit. Acknowledge your occasional slip-up and quickly get back on the wagon.

Don’t abandon your goals for a few mistakes.

Talk to Friends, Family, and Your Trainer

Telling people about your goals may help you to stay accountable. On those days where it’s most difficult to get your butt to the gym, call a friend and in the matter of a few minutes that conversation may help you to see clear and remind you why you set those goals for yourself in the first place. Also, you can do the same for friends and family when you see them struggling with motivation.

Holding each other accountable is a great way to help each other stay focused.
